The metro stations of Pyongyang are a public outlet for the latest edition of the Rodong Sinmun or Workers Newspaper of Pyongyang. Travelers of all age and status will gather around the display to find out about the latest informations, sport results and state news. Some of them use spotlights to highlight the section they are currently looking at. This proved to be an interesting spot to take pictures of the daily life of Pyongyang citizens.

Gossip and sports on display

On the pictures you can also easily see the different types of dresscodes. People all would look very consistent giving the impression of a predefined lookbook for each social class. Women would war blouses and pencil skirts or trousers if they are office workers. Labor intensive jobs would usually wear some brown/greenish type of jumper or uniform. Children would often wear school uniforms accompanied by the red scarf of the young pioneers. Consistently every citizen of the DPRK would wear a pin on the left side above the heart depicting one or multiple of the leaders.

The pins weren’t sold anywhere. You can only get them as a present or as a citizen of the DPRK. However cheap replicas were sold on the river banks of Dandong on the chinese side.
