Road side snacks

On my recent bike tour I came across a row of small stalls selling bamboo pods filled with rice soaked in coconut milk and roasted over an open fire.

A couple was preparing the pods. After the rice gets cooked the pods are all covered up with black burnt ashes. With a large knife the burnt parts are chopped of leaving nothing than a perfect and thin-walled rest of the original pods.

To access the rice you peel the pod like a banana and eat what’s inside. A delicious snack while pedaling the Cambodian countryside.
