After arriving to the top it is a short 10 minute walk to the pagoda itself. You can make the rest of the way in a palanquin if you’re not up to the walking. The pagoda itself is a spectacular sight. Legend says the rock is held only in place by two hairs of Buddha himself. In any case it’s a wonderful experience. People in their colorful clothes worshipping and praying all over the place.
The rock itself may as so many other important buddhist sites only be approached by male humans. I can’t really understand the reason, but it feels somehow unjust. Vicariously I bought some gold leafs for B.A. and me and sticked them to the rock making the wishes for both of us. No-one can’t complain about that.
The sightseeing in Myanmar almost reached an end, we headed further south to the city of Hpa-an on the afternoon.
