My last days mainly consisted of working and hanging out at a nice garden in Bangkok. More on that later. Nonetheless I finished the summary of my expenses in March and I’ll take this as a good start to post again.
The categories remain unchanged from the last report. And can be easily compared. My overall spendings were not as high as in the first month in Cambodia and Thailand but this can be traced back to the missing initial long distance flight.
Pocket money
The trip to Myanmar turned out to be cheap in terms of daily living costs. Though you have to pay different fees for the archeological sites there’s not much else that you can throw money at. This is not entirely true, as in Yangon there are upmarket places you can easily spent a pile of money for food or beverages. But not so much in the countryside.
Accomodation
Accommodation was the major cost driver. As Myanmar has only recently opened it’s borders for foreign visitors many places are still regulated from the military government. I guess that’s the reason why prices for beds are still pricey and the free market competition has yet to kick in. Myanmar really feels expensive compared to places like Cambodia or Thailand that have many options for cheap accommodation. On the other hand I didn’t opt for the cheapest but most convenient places. So I guess you could easily cut this cost half if you’re willing to stay at more remote or more run down places.
Unnecessary
Also this time I managed to loose some property. This time it was two pieces of beautiful artwork that I’ve discovered in a gallery in Yangon.
Even with a lot of research like checking the CCTV cameras of my apartment and a radio call (!) to all Taxt drivers in Bangkok I was unable to get them back. So there’s the unnecessary spending of this month.
