When we left Bangkok we opted for the early train to Aranyaprathet. The train left Bangkok at 5.55 in the morning so we had to wake up early from our Hostel right opposite the Hua Lamphong train station. Tickets for 3rd class ride are only 48 THB (around 1,20 EUR) for a scenic 5.5 hours train ride to the border at Poipet.
After leaving the train we took a local Tuk-Tuk Taxi avoiding potential scams we’ve read about beforehand. Crossing the border took around 1 hour and required a picture and 30 USD for the Visa on Arrival to Cambodia. Immediately after entering Cambodia we were confronted with the heaviest attempts to trick is into some strange modes of transportation. We waved the scammers goodbye and pointed at a site in the far distance where we pretended to look for our guesthouse.
After walking a KM on a busy road we negotiated a private driver to take us to Siam Reap for around 35 USD. We shared the ride with another soul who got lost in the border area. The driver dropped us of at the Sun Sothy guesthouse in the middle of nowhere. Where the road is dusty and the dogs are pretty.
